Cancer Treatment Relief

We offer hope for cancer patients; helping to improve their quality of life.

Much research is being performed regarding how acupuncture can help relieve some of the symptoms of cancer and side effects of cancer treatment. Acupuncture has been shown to help relieve fatigue, hot flashes, nausea, vomiting, and pain associated with chemotherapy.

The most thorough study of acupuncture in breast cancer patients was published in Journal of the American Medical Association in 2000. In the study, 104 women undergoing high-dose chemotherapy were given traditional anti-nausea medication. In addition to taking the medication, the women were randomly chosen to receive 5 days of electro-acupuncture (acupuncture in which needles are stimulated with a mild electrical current), acupuncture without an electrical current, or no acupuncture. The women who had acupuncture treatments were shown to have had significantly fewer nausea episodes than those who didn’t.

Another Study

Another study, completed at Duke University and published in 2002, compared the use of acupuncture to the use of Zofran (chemical name: ondansetron), an anti-nausea medication, before breast cancer surgery to reduce the nausea that can occur after surgery. The acupuncture treatment was found to work better than Zofran at controlling nausea.

In a French study published in 2003, acupuncture was examined in the treatment of cancer-related pain. Patients treated with acupuncture had a 36% reduction in pain after 2 months of acupuncture treatments, compared with a 2% reduction in pain in the patients receiving a placebo type of acupuncture.

Stats

In one very preliminary 2004 study at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, acupuncture was shown to reduce post-chemotherapy fatigue by 31% in people with various types of cancer. In 2005, another preliminary study of breast cancer patients in Sweden showed that acupuncture reduced hot flashes by half. While doctors find these results encouraging, they are still very early results and require further study.

When I first went to Team Acupuncture I could not stand up straight and I was in a lot of pain. My first fall from a horse was when I was a year old and after that I had many more. I used to be a jumper but had to stop at the age of 21 because of back pain. I am now 28 years old and used to live with constant back and neck pain. My sciatica issues were getting progressively more painful. I had been to two acupuncturists and a Chiropractor plus some PT and have had plenty of Advil. I’m Caretha Cason and a friend/coworker told me about acupuncture because I was having pain on my foot /heel where I couldn’t walk hardly and I was goin to the foot dr. which I’ve already been before several times and they gave me a diagnostic of a heel spur. My coworker said try acupuncture because I had the same problem you having and I went to Dr.Long and she heeled me and I have no more pain in my foot. So I tried her and I’ve been to her 3 times already and I can feel the difference in my foot/heel. It doesn’t hurt as much. My quality of life has dramatically increased

I have suffered with chronic lower back pain for 30+ years due to a childhood injury and a lifetime of contact sports. I regularly participated in physical therapy and chiropractic treatment with limited results. My discomfort became so severe earlier this year that I received 3 sessions of cortisone injections into my spine. The relief was minimal and short lived. My next step was surgery and a spinal fusion. I limped into Ms Long’s office as a last ditch effort to ease my pain. Acupuncture Helps Equestrians

I have scoliosis which is a deviation in the column. I have this condition since I was a teenager, never really bothers me. Start bothering me when I bought a new horse, and in order for me to ride him in the ride way I have to use muscles that because of the curvature on my column I haven’t using them, at that point the pain started. The pain was really strong during the night, I couldn’t sleep well, I woke up with numbness on my left side and kind of headache. I decided to tried acupuncture and luckily found Dr. Long. She is amazing, in a matter of ten sessions my pain is gone (although I know the curvature is there) . Thank to her I can ride my horse and do my gym routine. It was a great, and I don’t regret it a minute. Thank you Dr. Long.

Visiting Dr. Long’s Practice Has Greatly Improved My Health!

After a seminar on a cruise I was lucky enough to run into Dr. Yue (Iris) Long when going to Best Buy. A sign offered a free interview and session. It has been the best experience.
